Words, words, words. Hmm… I can’t really say that I have very many least favorite words. Matter of fact, I could only think of one at first. Short list today.
My Least Favorite Words:
– Daffodil – I’ve always thought this was the goofiest sounding word. No idea why. I just remember talking to my friends in high school and commenting on how this word is utterly ridiculous
– Any words used in the form of a mean slur against someone – whether it be racial, hateful, or just mean and hurtful. I think we need to be responsible with our word usage.
Most words don’t bother me. If I think of more, I’ll add to this list.
I watched “Revenge of the Bridesmaids” today while working on wedding albums. (Thank you, Netflix!) It wasn’t the best movie ever or anything like that, but it was good light-hearted fair for while I was working. I then watched “New In Town” with Renee Zellweger & Harry Connick Jr. and I was pleasantly surprised that Renee didn’t annoy me as much as she has in other movies recently. She still makes that pursed lip face thing but at least I didn’t notice it that much. Then again, I was still designing albums. Last but not least, I watched “The Answer Man” which was an amusing indie romance movie. Definitely worth watching. Then again, like the whole words thing, that isn’t much that I don’t like.
Speaking of movies – check this out! NatGeo flew a house just like in the movie “Up!” Ok, maybe not just like it, since it looks a lot smaller, but still pretty cool that they flew it for an hour like that!
Being self-employed makes life interesting when it comes to weekends, especially when you’re a photographer. What is the weekend to other people isn’t always the weekend for me. This weekend I don’t have a wedding or any photo shoots, so I’m actually taking it easy while getting things done. Being gone for WPPI just over a week ago and leaving town again for SXSWi in a week makes me glad that this weekend is pretty quiet.
– Tweak the blog design at Hot Mama Boudoir
– Client meeting on Saturday morning
– Work on wedding album layouts
– Clean out the garage before it gets too hot outside
– Spend some time doing nothing with Mike & Jason
– Watch the Social Network
– Read a book – have any good suggestions?
I’d love to fit clearing out the closet in there, but realistically I know it just isn’t going to happen this weekend! Maybe next week?
I rarely listen to music. Not because I don’t like it, but when I’m in my car I like to enjoy the silent time to myself, and when I’m at home I tend to work in quiet or with the TV on.
My little secret? My confession? One of the best part of photographing weddings is the music at the reception! It is like a dance party all the time! But the bonus of no club, no bouncers, and no cover charge!
So here are some of my favorite reception songs. Overplayed? Maybe. But that is because they are AWESOME!!!!!!!
– Dynamite by Taio Cruz
– I’ve Got a Feeling by Black-Eyed Peas
– California Girls and Firework by Katy Perry
– Club Can’t Handle Me by Flo Rida
– Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey or the Glee version
– Just Dance by Lady Gaga
I don’t have much music on my iPhone, but you can find most of these there. At the end of the night, when driving home from a wedding – or on the way to a photoshoot or a client meeting – you can normally find me singing along to these songs, usually loud and off-key, in the Mini!
Out of all of the songs – this one has become my own personal anthem of sorts to remind me that we are all amazing people! I discovered it when I bought the CD, and had no idea it was already rising on the Top 40 charts at the time. Hopefully it inspires you as much is it does me!
Firework by Katy Perry
Do you ever feel like a plastic bag,
Drifting through the wind, wanting to start again?
Do you ever feel, feel so paper-thin
Like a house of cards, one blow from caving in?
Do you ever feel already buried deep?
Six feet under screams, but no one seems to hear a thing
Do you know that there’s still a chance for you?
‘Cause there’s a spark in you
You just gotta ignite the light, and let it shine
Just own the night like the Fourth of July
‘Cause baby, you’re a firework
Come on, show ‘em what you’re worth
Make ‘em go “ah, ah, ah!”
As you shoot across the sky-y-y
Baby, you’re a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make ‘em go “ah, ah, ah!”
You’re gonna leave ‘em all in awe, awe, awe
You don’t have to feel like a waste of space
You’re original, cannot be replaced
If you only knew what the future holds
After a hurricane, comes a rainbow
Maybe the reason why all the doors are closed
So you could open one that leads you to the perfect road
Like a lightning bolt, your heart will glow
And when it’s time you know
You just gotta ignite the light, and let it shine
Just own the night like the Fourth of July
‘Cause baby, you’re a firework
Come on, show ‘em what you’re worth
Make ‘em go “ah, ah, ah!”
As you shoot across the sky-y-y
Baby, you’re a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make ‘em go “ah, ah, ah!”
You’re gonna leave ‘em all in awe, awe, awe
Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
It’s always been inside of you, you, you
And now it’s time to let it through
‘Cause baby, you’re a firework
Come on, show ‘em what you’re worth
Make ‘em go “ah, ah, ah!”
As you shoot across the sky-y-y
Baby, you’re a firework
Come on, let your colors burst
Make ‘em go “ah, ah, ah!”
You’re gonna leave ‘em all in awe, awe, awe
Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
Boom, boom, boom
Even brighter than the moon, moon, moon
Next up for the 30 Days of Lists are things that I’m looking forward to. I’ve realized recently after meeting Me Ra Koh and working with Jeff Jochum that I generally don’t dream beyond the present moment. I’ve been working on it, but I am not there yet – so asking me what I’m looking forward to is a lot more pressure than you might think. Hmm… what am I looking forward to?

Today’s list is Things I’m Good At. I don’t know about you, but sometimes writing about things I’m good at is hard. I seem to be conditioned to find my faults so much easier than I find my own strengths. I’m working on that though! Definitely a perk of doing these lists!
