Cleaning the Blog House…

See all those links over there on the sidebar? Neatly grouped into people I’ve met (Tasty Cookies), people I want to meet someday (Chewy Cookies), and knitters – because knitters are fabulous and deserve a category all their own? Well, I’m really weird about deleting links. Some of those sites I’ve had links going to for over 8 years. Whether I’ve met them in person or not, I consider them friends. So to remove them from the blogroll just feels wrong. They are the blogs that have helped me get through some low times in my life, and the people that have celebrated so many joys with me.

But I had to come to terms with the fact that some of them are just gone. No longer blogging. The links are dead. And there were others who are very important to me that needed to be added, because they weren’t there at all.

So I deleted links. I’m added in some new ones. I changed ones that I knew had moved. I’m nowhere near done, but I’m doing it in alphabet groups. While doing this and thinking about people that have influenced me, I’m realizing that I miss some aspects of my old blog. I’m going to go back to blogging about whatever is going on in my life. I don’t know when that stopped — but I want it back. I hope you’ll stay along for the ride.

Oh, and if you’re not listed on my blogroll but think I should be reading your site – leave a comment. I would love to add you to the list.

Thanks, Ike for the Surreal Reality…

I’ve been staying mainly in my own neighborhood post-Ike, just working away on different projects I’m in the middle of. On Saturday, I went to Discovery Green for a bridal portrait session. Driving towards downtown Houston, I passed the McDonald’s at I-45 and N. Main with the ratty, wind-ravaged sign. Seeing the Chase building downtown was just weird. Matter of fact, we had to plan our shoot around places that I knew would be all cleaned up after the storm, since there are still piles of debris everywhere around the city.

Strange to think it has only been a few weeks, and most of the nation has moved on to bigger and more pressing issues (how is your 401k doing?), and Ike is a distant memory for almost everyone. But not here. Although we’ve only had power back on for 10 days now, and already I’m taking it for granted again.

I’m Back! I’m Back!

We got our power back last Friday after 14 days of it being off post-Ike. Fourteen freakin’ days! Thank goodness my parents had power (and internet! Bonus!) and were wonderful and let us come and stay there. We had plans for Friday night for my birthday, which was on Saturday. I had a wedding on Saturday with the birthday bride, Erika – it was her birthday too! So we waited until Sunday to pack up and come home.

Only to discover that my blog was broken. I couldn’t log in to post.

Fortunately, my fabulous hosts figured out that it was a Plugin gone crazy, so Mike fixed it for me last night by removing the plugins so we could figure out which one was causing the hangup. It is working again now! YEAH!

So I’m home, catching up on work and email, and doing well. How are you?
