The Lengths I Will Go for a Photograph…

I do not get lost in Boston. I have a very bizarre sense of where I am at when I am in the heart of Boston, and I can get anywhere without a problem. It really freaks Mike out, and I can’t explain it other than the joke about the fact that David Selleck lived in Boston in the 1600s, so it must be genetic. (That, or the fact that I’ve walked a lot of Boston with a map in my hand, so now I don’t really need a map at all.)
Driving and dealing with STOOPID one way streets is a whole different story. It is really frustrating to know exactly where you are – and where you want to be – and to not be able to get there. I spent at least 30 minutes driving around in circles on Thursday night because I really, really wanted to take a photo of the Old State House at night. I was so close, and yet I just couldn’t get there. It was a happy moment when I drove past the building (after an illegal left turn) because then it was just a matter of parking. Again, illegally in a school administrators spot. Come on, it was night – no one was going to be parking there.
Once I parked, I had to walk in a few blocks in the cold and wind to get my night shot. Of course, I left my tripod in the car, so every picture I took was handheld. That is ok, because I was pleased with this one. (Note to self: you can change the “ISO” on the camera. If you take it off of 100 ISO, say maybe changing it to 400 instead, you will get better night shots. Oops.)
This is one of my favorite buildings in Boston – I love how old and historic it is, and yet it is surrounded by the financial district. Something about the whole thing just amuses me.

Beauty night shot! I got lost the first time I went to Boston. I walked and walked and ended up across a bridge pass the USS Constitution in Charlestown. I eventually made it back to the Commons.

That is exactly why I never drive in Boston. It’s crazy, but it’s prefect for walking.

Beautiful shot…you’re lucky Mike is so patient to drive around to get that shot. After ten minutes my Michael would have probably said, “Let’s go…”!!!

@MishMish – Mike was off at a bachelor party, so I was just getting myself lost at the time. Probably a good thing!
Thanks to everyone for the kind words – every time I look at it, I love this shot more & more. I need to print some for next month’s art show!

Christine – I will be moving from Indiana to Houston in a few weeks. Can you provide some guidance on the LYS options? I know you live on the north side, but if you know of anything on the south side, that would be great too! Thanks! -Julie
