The Crocodile Hunter…

I missed the news yesterday: Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin killed by stingray. How sad. I always enjoyed watching his shows, and I think he did a lot to teach about the importance of conservation.

It absolutely broke my heart. He was one of my heros. Not for all the risks that he took, but for his ability to share his love of the natural world with the rest of the world and championing the many species of animals that are often vilified by ignorant humans. Even in his death, education and conservation are the message. May that always be the case with his memory.

It is sad, very sad, but, OTOH, how many people actually die doing what they love to do? Children and crocs of the world are crying and missing him :(
