DeLay Announces Resignation From House

Succumbing to scandal, former Majority Leader Tom DeLay said Tuesday he is resigning from Congress, a move that closes out a career that blended unflinching conservatism with a bare-knuckled political style.

I’m stunned. Speechless. Overjoyed? Is that too strong? Nah, probably not. Every time I see Tom DeLay on TV, I shout “Spawn of Satan!” at him. I’m so glad I don’t live on the south side of Houston, and he was not my representative in the government. But to see him out of there makes me just giddy with glee. Sad, but so true. [via Mac who has a lot more to say about it.]

I can’t wait to see the fall-out of this. Here is the Houston Chronicle’s article about his upcoming resignation and the scandal he is facing. I can’t wait to see what Chuck has to say about this. Oh, it is going to be gooooooood…

[This now concludes my semi-annual political blogging content. Regular content will resume shortly. Thank you.]

I so agree with you! I’m so glad he is gone, but unfortunately much of the damage he cause will stay.

Ha, no kidding. It made my day, maybe my week. The husband says he didn’t want to be removed in handcuffs, so he’s getting out before then. I sent you an email and I’m still waiting. There must not be using the right one. Or you have one stout filter that won’t even allow in free yarn!

Or I’m a dork and didn’t write you back. I’ll do that later today as I have my e-mail down now in preparation to record the podcast. (Yeah! Finally! A new episode!)

I couldn’t believe it when I heard the news this morning, and I almost wrote my first political entry. Unfortunately, I’ve been too busy at work.

I grew up in that part of town, but even my Republican parents couldn’t stand DeLay.

    What a great day!

The local blogosphere reacts to DeLay’s departure…

Almost immediately after Monday’s night’s news that U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay would not seek re-election and resign his House seat, bloggers began analyzing, dissecting and linking. Here are excerpts from local blogs: From Big Pink Cookie: I’m stunned. S…

Its unfortunate that Delay is bowing to the orchestrated political pressure by the Democrats and the liberal media, but he has the right idea, it’s better for his district, the State, the Country, and even the Republicans to do so. Even Nixon had enough integrity to know when to leave. Ol Slick Willy Clinton on the other hand is a different story.

Delay is right about him still being able to win in District 22 against Nick “I never met an aborted fetus I didn’t like” Lampson. The district is full of soccer Moms who prefer their babies alive and in one piece plus they have a disdain for “women” like Hillary Clinton who Lampson will support for President. Moreover, the Dems have an agenda of trying to impeach Bush if they win the majority of the seats in the house so I still think Repubs will win with whomever they put in place against Nick the knife.

What Delay is accused of, and maybe did is no different than what most of the politicians are doing and the payback investigations are sure to follow. If the Democrats had enough courage to adopt the same rule as the House Republicans have regarding leaders having to resign if indicted, Harry Reid and his family full of lobbyists would be looking for new careers as well.

Thanks for the invitation! I wish that I could join you, but my husband is finally getting here this weekend. I haven’t seen him in a month.

Please let me know when you have another get-together and let me know what Yarntopia is like.
