February 2005

Tonight was the awards ceremony for our Scout troop. It is always a potluck dinner, and I think Jason got a bit wound up from it. I’m blaming the desserts.

On the way home, as we pulled into the gas station, I looked at him and asked, “WHAT is your DEAL?!??”

His response: “Buy one, get one free?”

*snort* I couldn’t even keep a straight face, I was laughing so hard.

I just discovered that I missed an important date last week. February 25th was the three year anniversary of Blogomania! Wow, three years. It actually doesn’t feel like it has been that long.

I have to thank everyone who hosts with us (close to 500 of you now!) and especially thank those of you that have been with us since the very beginning. Without all of you, Blogomania would not be what it is today.

Take a moment to check out the early Blogomaniacs: Amanita, Being Daddy, Bryan Kaplan, Cheryl Lambert, Global Sandbox, Julie and Brad, Kadyellebee, Mad Bull, MizDos, Neurotic Fishbowl, No Bra Required, Northwest Notes, Painfully Cool, PromoGuy, Struat.com, and Stupid Evil Bastard.

Ok, ok, I’m procrastinating. Back to work! (See what I mean? I’m going to starve to death before I get today’s project finished. *sigh*)

I love working for myself. Self-employment? Best thing since sliced bread or Tivo. But some days it is just hard to get things done. I see others that seem to just crank out work without effort, and I just don’t get it. How do they do it?

I have to bribe myself. Right now, I must finish coding a page (with CSS … my eyes are on the verge of bleeding) before I will let myself stop for lunch. I keep setting mini-goals like that. No knitting until I have today’s project done. But sometimes it is so hard. Especially when you’re trying to code with a grumbling tummy.

Yet another reason to add to my long list of reasons that Minnesota is cool … the Minnesota RollerGirls - Get Derby! I love their season opener poster - Badass Holly Hobby RollerGirl! How fabulous is that? [via Wendy]

It’s raining right now, and I am amused because my big fat cat, Murphy, can’t stand the rain. I don’t recall it ever being an issue back in my old apartment, but ever since we moved into the house he goes and finds a cabinet to hide in when it rains. Right now he is pawing at the kitchen cabinets - but I’ve actually got them blocked off so he can’t get into them. Poor thing, he just wants to hide from the rain.

Am I the only one that owns a cat that is afraid of the rain? I’ve heard of dogs that are afraid of thunder, but never a cat.

Whoo hoo! It just took a few minutes to recreate my RSS feed through FeedBurner, and now I’ve good a feed with full posts! Whoo hoo!!!

UPDATE: I made some changes. The link above *should* work, but please let me know if it doesn’t!

Thanks to Microsoft’s parent’s primer to computer slang, I’ve finally learned the meaning of w00t. It is slang for “We Own the Other Team”? Amazing. Who knew? (If nothing else, read the “primer” for some good amusement. Pretty damn funny.) [via Cold Angry Lizard]

Update: I prefer the Wikipedia’s definition so much more. I use w00t as an exclamation, and have for years. Props to Michael for pointing it out.

Mike left last night for Holland. Wait, I know what your initial reaction is, you’re thinking “Cool!” Yeah, no. He hates going to Holland. He is convinced that Holland hates him. He says that every time he goes there, bad things happen. The best was the time he ended up having to do a Spiderman routine on the side of a hotel a few stories above a lake.

It is so strange being home alone without him. I didn’t think it would be weird - I lived alone for many years. I’m alone during the day while working at home. But it just feels different. I had the worst time trying to get to sleep last night - I was up until after 4 am. I would have thought I would have loved having the whole bed to myself; instead it just feels empty. A piece of our lives is missing, and I think both Jason & I are feeling the effects already.

I’ll be glad when this week is over. Very glad.

I’ve decided to try out FeedBurner - I love that you can see how many people are subscribed to a feed. So here is my chicklet that allows you to easily sign up - I’ll be removing my old feed soon, and I’ll add this to my sidebar as I make other changes this week.

Update: Feed is fixed, and now includes full posts. I’ve fixed the URL to link to the new feed.

I am quite amused to learn that Paris Hilton’s cell phone was hacked, but it really caught my eye to see that Vin Diesel was among the celebrities listed whose phone numbers and e-mail address information was posted online. Jenn, did you happen to find it? We could give Vin a ring! [via Skits]

(It’s been a long day, I’m easily amused…)

Snagged from Planet Janet, to spare you from hearing me ramble about my class on knitting socks tomorrow.

Bold the states you’ve been to, underline the states you’ve lived in and italicize the state you’re in now…

Alabama / Alaska / Arizona / Arkansas / California / Colorado / Connecticut / Delaware / Florida / Georgia / Hawaii / Idaho / Illinois / Indiana / Iowa / Kansas / Kentucky / Louisiana / Maine / Maryland / Massachusetts / Michigan / Minnesota / Mississippi / Missouri / Montana / Nebraska / Nevada / New Hampshire / New Jersey / New Mexico / New York / North Carolina / North Dakota / Ohio / Oklahoma / Oregon / Pennsylvania / Rhode Island / South Carolina / South Dakota / Tennessee / Texas / Utah / Vermont / Virginia / Washington / West Virginia / Wisconsin / Wyoming / Washington D.C /

Go HERE to have a form generate the HTML for you.

… I have a question though - do states I’ve been through count? I think I’ve been through a few states that I didn’t mark, but I didn’t stay long enough to count them as a visit (just passing through from one state to another), so do those count?

My states I want to visit, but I haven’t been there yet? Alaska, California, Florida, Hawaii, Kentucky, Maine, Montana, New Hampshire, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Wyoming. Uh, yeah, pretty much all of the ones I haven’t been to before.

Socks. Tomorrow. I can hardly wait!

I know that Christina and others have wondered time and time again…

“Where is the love for those who crochet?”

Well, good news. The author of the Stitch ‘n Bitch books posted to the SnB Yahoo! list that I’m on, and guess what? Her next project is on CROCHET! She’s even looking for submissions. I saved the e-mail - let me know if you want the scoop.
