Moving Back…
Posted on November 27, 2004 by Christine | 10 Comments
I want to move this site back to MT, only there is one problem. I can’t find a way to get the data out of WP. I’ve found this posts on exports for backups in the WP forums, but that’s not quite what I need. I would think that thanks to the power of MySQL, this shouldn’t be that hard – but as Mike pointed out to me the other night, the database formats are entirely different.
Anyone have any suggestions?

I managed to convert back from B2 to MT, and there was a link for WP to MT conversions: http://www.papascott.de/archives/2004/09/01/export-from-wordpress/

I was actually looking into switching from MT to WP – can I ask what is inspiring the move back?

Dang. I was gonna say this but Nessie got there first. Dang. If only WordPress would output static pages, you wouldn’t need to jump through hoops.

One of the things I like about WP are the dynamic pages – my site still seems to load faster than it did with MT. But we’ll see, maybe using dynamic pages in MT will be faster than the way I had my site set up before…

Dynamic pages in MT are very easy to set up…. I have MT on my domain and that’s good for the site that uses it as I’m very concious of the space that that particular domain uses.
Just one word of warning… If you get all your entries into a text file, you may need to edit it before you import it into MT. I did WordPress to MT format to Expression Engine and I had to delete hundreds of blank comments.

ROFL! I was just thinking earlier that I could maybe export from WP into pMachine, and from there into MT. Yeah, nothing should be that convoluted, but … still. I’m a desperate girl. I’ll be trying out my options tonight!
