The Cat…

When I sleep, I don’t normally snore. Sometimes, if I have a cold, but otherwise - not normally. No, I do something much better than that.

I sleep moan.

It’s a variant of snoring, I’m sure. I’ve heard myself do it before. It goes something like “mmmm… (pause) mmmm…” It’s actually pretty hysterical, in it’s own quirky little way. I don’t do it all the time, but I won’t deny that I do it. Fortunately, Mike is a sound sleeper, and couldn’t hear me over the sound of his own snoring, so it’s all good. He says it’s cute when I do it.

What does that have to do with “the cat” referenced in the title? Well, at this very moment, Mona is beside me on the couch, curled up, looking so peaceful… and sleep moaning.

My cat is sleep moaning. I can’t stop giggling.

I’ve been kept awake before, trapped between a snoring husband and a snoring cat.

I don’t sleep moan, but I have caught myself sleep mumbling. Just as I’m almost completely asleep, I hear this mumummmblblbb….

Apparently… and not to disclose any bedroom secrets here or anything… but:

I laugh. Yes, seriously.

Like, full-on, guffawing HAHAHAHAHA.

And I speak Afrikaans (my first language). Which is a little weird, because in South Africa, I was known to sleep-talk in English, French and Egyptian Arabic.

And before you become frightfully impressed… no, I can only say “I can’t speak French/Arabic”, or “I love you,” in Arabic and French. (Worked at the Egyptian Embassy for a while, and took French in college.)

I’ve never heard of anyone sleep MOANING before though, so you are VERY stra… I mean UNIQUE! ;-)

Oh, and I guess Mona is finally living up to her name? Like mommy like kitty, ‘eh?

P.S. As for the comment you left me, THANK YOU! If you have time, please go and read today’s post over at redsaid to see my message to you. And, by the way, you still have a chance to back out of it if you want to! Ha ha.

heh. I heard you doing that (and talking I think) at Em’s that night we had the sleep over. I talk in my sleep a lot, especially if I’m having stressful dreams. I usually tell people off and then wake myself up from all of the yelling.

I’m sure I did it at Em’s - it’s worse if I’ve been drinking! Not surprised about the sleep talking, I’ve been told I do that before, but not lately. Then again, like I said - Mike’s a pretty sounds sleeper!

i had a roommate in college who sleep-peed… in our dorm room. Sleep moaning seems really tame by comparison. And I bet Mike would think it was cute if he saw it.

My husband and I snore and must sound like a bear jamboree duet :)

Moan isn’t quite the word. I’m not really sure how to describe it adequately - it’s almost more thoughtful than a moan, more like an “um” or something.

You sooooo did that at my house. Well, at least one of the times you’ve slept over. Jeez. How many times have you slept on my couch?

I do that. My son does it. So does *my* cat. Hub thinks we’re all weird.

Hah. I sleep moan too. LOL
I always feel so stupid, and the first thing I do is look at the hubby to see if he heard me. Thankfully he is usually asleep!! hahaa
