Make it Stop!

Posted on November 23, 2003 by Christine | 16 Comments

Now the freak spammers are not only using blahblahblog.com to send out spam, but they have started using the Picture Yourself domain too. I’ve got hundreds of over FOUR THOUSAND bounce messages, which just started 3 days ago, in the inbox there. (Yes, I moved them *all* into one folder so I could “count” them.)

I think I’m going to cry.

Is there no way to track them down via their bounced headers and report it? I would think the bounced address would contain the original header info with IPs etc.

That’s what I’m looking for right now, but for some reason it all looks like garbly-gook to me through the anger and I can’t figure out which line is the line I want to report.

    Evil bastards!!!

Ooooh, they’ve gotten me before, too. Twice. And both times, I felt the exact same way you do. SO SORRY!

Again, this may be prohibited under the law that went into effect on September 1. You ought to talk to someone about that. Also see here and here.

I’m more worried at this moment about someone coming after *me* as a spammer – the law allows for me to recover damages for spam I received, not for spam sent with my name on it. At least that’s my understanding so far.

I am investigating this further though. Thanks for the links! :)

Procmail is your friend… set up a procmail rule based on the From Postmaster or Mailer Daemon to put all bounces into a folder so your inbox doesn’t get spammed.

SPAM SUCKS! Sounds like they *may be using you as a relay host..are you running your own domain? If so I’d close off the relaying port.

Nope, they are not relaying through me (we have the ports closed), they are just spoofing my address in the mail from fields – so I get all the bounce messages.

I’m just waiting to be blacklisted for it now. *sigh*

I’m so sorry… this happened to amancay.com a while back; unfortunately all I found I could do was attempt to report them via me hosting company…
and shrug, hoping they’d move on to the next bogus mix soon!

It’s not my fault, I’m not a spammer!
