Next, I Save the World…

Posted on April 8, 2003 by Christine | 25 Comments

Know what I did a few weeks ago? I named a new blog software. Now I’m anxiously waiting for WordPress to be released. PHP, MySQL, and based on b2 but with so much more. It’s the first blog software I’ve been willing to give a chance in a long time. Word on the street is that it will be out soon…

Besides naming it, what capabilities does it have over what you’re using now? I couldn’t find much info on the site.

I just named it – I’m not involved with the development of it. However, the info in the CVS repository link shows all of the changes they have made to b2.

For me, the biggest things are that it is free to use, free to modify, free to share, free. That, and the fact that it’s in PHP. I don’t code in PHP, but I know enough people that do, so I could probably have my heart’s desire. I don’t know that many people that code in Perl (MT), so most of my hacks already are PHP based. (I think that all of them are thanks to Jennifer!)

oh sweet! my blog was originally b2, but I moved over to MT because of all the neat-o features it had over b2 – so I’d definately be interested in trying out a more advanced b2 – especially since I don’t think b2 has had any update in a LONG while.

everything in pMachine is php, too, Christine! :P

i haven’t ventured to the link yet, but since i know that Matt has had his arms, legs, and head in the whole project, i’m sure it’ll be great!

i don’t think i’ll be moving my waterlily blog to WordPress, but if i ever start a new one, i’ll definitely consider WP simply because i know who’s behind it. besides, we already know Matt personally… he’s such a great guy.

Weblogs are an easy way to get content up on a Web site, and some Weblog tools offer you every level you could ask for in a content management system

Well WordPress has certainly come a long long way since it started off. I’m simply in love with it and I know lots of other people who are too. It’s the service and flexibility that WordPress offers that makes it stand out from the rest. The support for plug-ins and some awesome themes. Not to mention the awesome commitment from the developers.

Adam, yes WordPress has come a long way since its release. In my humble opinion, it’s by far the greatest blog platform on the planet. The sheer number of plugins available tell us that it’s probably the most popular, too. As you say, it’s simply awesome.

    Wow!
    I arrived here incidentally.
    Just I can’t remember what I was searching for…
    :D

I think WordPress is one of the best piece of software ever written. It helped so much the blogosphere development. In fact it is an open source project such as mySql, PHP and Linux (LAMP).

But I did know nothing about its name. :)

It’s a perfect name Christine for the platform, and I would be very proud of myself if I could name something that millions of bloggers are using it every day!

It is interesting to read this article now that WordPress has been out and is mainstream….so is it everything that you envisioned?

How far we’ve come since your post. WordPress can be bent and shaped into so much more than a blog these days, just keep your installation updated and never never use 777 file permissions.

I had to do a double take on the date this post was written. It’s amusing how WordPress has turnoed out to be practically every blogger’s preferred tool.

That is awesome. Like some of the posters above I had to look at this again.

That’s SWEET!! They need to give you more credit heheheh. I have a good friend that lives in Galveston, John, he’s had the pleasure of meeting Matt several times and always told me how interesting he was. I’ve wanted to get to some of the meetings and training camps that he’s gone to but kinda far and never had the time.

Anyways off to bed for a few hours now

It’s amazing how far WordPress has gone. Amongst all the choices bloggers have, it’s one that is probaly the most user-friendly and practical option which can really help make blogging easier, more lucrative and more enterprising.

Is this post the origin of the WordPress brand & name?

    Magic.
