Now I Get It…
Ok, ok, thanks to this explanation about the war from a Warmonger to a Peacenik, now I finally get the war. Wow, I didn’t realize it was all that plain and simple. [via Jay. War gives him a headache too.]
By the way - can someone, anyone, point me to the official statement that the UN made when they told Bush that he couldn’t go and start a war? And then the link to an article about Bush’s speech on TV where he said that he didn’t care what the UN said, we had to go? (I know I’m paraphrasing here, that is why I’m looking for the actual articles.) I tried Google searches left and right, but I haven’t had any luck. Help? Anyone?
Speaking of Bush’s appearances, just how sure can you be that that is really him on TV anyways?. “Some experts suspect that this might be a heretofore unknown Bush brother, a family sleeper who has been groomed to step in at times of crisis, or even George Bush Sr on his first outing following a recent toupee fitting and a course of Botox injections.” [also via Jay.]

GZip, Not Just for Websites Anymore…
Just last week I mentioned using GZip to compress my website. Now it seems that scientist are asking File Compression: New Tool for Life Detection? “As a measure of overall pattern complexity, they find that the inherent pixel content of biologically generated fossils produces higher image compression ratios [more data redundancy], compared to their non-biological counterparts. The more the file shrinks, the more likely it is that a living process was involved.” [via Slashdot]
Hmmm… I wonder if Matt knew about this when he lead us all to gzip?

Daily Promise…
I realized last night while editing some photos for Pixelog that if I added one a day for the next month, I would still have a ton left over. That’s when it hit me … I must add at least one new photo daily. Must. Do. It. So I’m making a commitment to add them - and your job is to give me a swift kick if I don’t. I still have a few more from Europe to add (they always make me think of Ciscley), then it’s on to more recent photos - SXSW, the Houston Zoo, and more.
Get your fresh hot photos daily over at Pixelog!

The Right Question…
Derek asked me during SXSW why I had never shared a story at Fray. I said I didn’t know. He said, “I guess we just haven’t asked the right question.” You know what? He was right. But he has now with Bookends. My answer is already on the site.

Public Service Announcement…
In case you didn’t know, Faith has moved. She’s no longer Undisturbed (and I still like to thing of her as Ctrl-Alt-Ego), but now she is Oxymoronic: just like the name says. Enjoy!

Pre-Evercrack - Back in the Day…
Remember back in the days before Evercrack? When D&D was the rage, our moms were worried that we were getting sucked in to a Satanic world? Well, my Mom didn’t worry because I didn’t play D&D, but I knew other kids who did. Now you can remember those days with 8 Bit D&D. Surgeon Specific would warn you that you should not be drinking anything as you watch this, or if you are, have paper towels handy to clean off the monitor. [via Todd and Lisa]

The Race to 1000…
We are getting close to the 1,000th picture mark at Picture Yourself … have you submitted yours lately? I saw a lot of people snappy PY-style photos in the past month - share them! Send them in!

It’s Birthday Time!
Busy day ahead, but I just had to take a moment to give a Happy Birthday shout-out to one of my personal long-time favorite people, PromoGuy! Promo & I have known each other for what seems like forever and he has always been a wonderful friend. Plus he’s a gadget junkie too, and I just love that in a person! He always hooks me up with the goooooods…
Promo, life can hold many regrets if we focus on the past, but if we focus on the future it’s not as bad. Like you said, life, like a fine wine, gets better with age. I hope you have a FANTASTIC birthday weekend and that nothing but the best in the years ahead!

Make Your Site Go ZOOOOM!
Remember when I said that PhotoMatt implemented voodoo code on my site to make it faster? Did you notice how much faster it loads? (Unless you use Safari. Sorry.) Well, if you want to make your site load faster too, Matt wrote a GREAT tutorial that I just posted over on ScriptyGoddess! It amounts to PHP on your server and 1 line of code. That’s it. Speed up your webpages, cut down on bandwidth, and make everyone happy!

Feed Me! Feed Me!
I’ve begged everyone to do it before, but here’s a second request. Please … pretty please … update your RSS feed to include your full blog posts. (Need more details? Read this.) Then - whether you update or not - leave me the address for your feed so I can add it to my news reader of choice, NewzCrawler.
If you’re looking for a different news reader, you can check out NewsDesk, NetNewsWire (for Macs), FeedReader, NewsGator, or AmphetaDesk. (Some links snagged from Lockergnome.)
What’s the big deal? Well, like Chris Pirillo said earlier this week - “If you don’t have a RSS file, I ain’t likely to return to your site. M’kay?” I do 85% of my blog reading in Newzcrawler, only hitting sites to leave comments. It makes things fast and easy for me, and results in more comments for you! (He also found the jackpot of RSS Feeds here, which includes news feeds like Jennifer & I were looking for recently.)
Feed me! Feed me! Come on, you know you want to. Like Veruca Salt, “I don’t care how! I want it now!“

Next, The World!
Nicole and I are going to run for office. Don’t you think it is a good idea? I mean, if the world isn’t a better place with us in power, at least it would be a lot more fun!
Plus she makes the coolest hats. Did I mention that she made me a hat? She did, it rocks, and I love it. I need to post a picture of me in the hat - it should be in the 40s in Houston tonight, so I think I shall wear the hat one more time before the heat of summer takes over!

It Passed…
Remember that resolution (H. Res. 153) that I talked about the other day? Well, it passed. I get enough humility, prayer and fasting with my own religion (the one I chose), thankyouverymuch. I don’t need the government telling me I need more.
By the way - speaking of fasting and religion - it’s Friday. If you’re Catholic, you’re not supposed to eat meat today. (Because it’s also Lent.) This is your friendly public service announcement, because I always forget.

Only Appropriate…
It’s been almost a month since one of my attorneys asked me if I had ever heard of a “blawg”, so I was amused to see my site listed on the Legal Web Site Directory: Sites of the Month list! Considering I am a paralegal, it’s somewhat fitting - even though this is the only blog on the list that isn’t full of posts about legal issues. (I should note that this site is correctly cited as bigpinkcookie.com not blahblahblog.com, although that’s an easy mistake and both domains work.)
It may be the only time that this site and Ernie the Attorney make the same list. In the next few weeks I will actually be launching a more legal-related blog at a separate domain. I will be sure to post about it here, of course. I’ve got some discovery to get through first though!
