They Say It Gives You Good Body…
Posted on November 27, 2002 by Christine | 152 Comments
They say that beer gives you good body, but I always thought they meant your hair. You know, bouncy, beautiful, full of body hair. Now There’s Beer to Wash Away Your Troubles and you can find out what it does to your body too! A German brewery has developed a brew you can wash with. “The beer cloaks bathers in a delicate aroma of malt.” Mmmm… just what I’ve always wanted! [via VieuxBandit]

I’ve actually owned and used beer shampoo. it rocked, and it was even in a plastic ‘beer bottle’.
although as a former bus boy and bartender in a night club, I’ve had the ‘delicate aroma of malt’ permeate every pore, and that’s not something i’d really care for. yuk.
November 27th, 2002 @ 12:49 pm
I was just coming to post that my mother had that beer shampoo too! It was called “Body on Tap” and it did look like it was in a beer bottle. This was like, 1978. I remember I even tasted it, and it tasted nothing like beer. What dorky kid tastes shampoo??
November 27th, 2002 @ 7:33 pm
Actually, they mean it gives you A good body. Like, the more you drink, the more “body” you get. Well, specifically your gut.
November 27th, 2002 @ 8:55 pm
Yeah, but good in whose eyes??? Huh? That’s the real question! *wink*

Where can you still buy Body on Tap Shampoo, and don’t say the Country Store in Vermont or Out of Africa trading, because they don’t have it. Also, why did they take it off the market?
September 7th, 2003 @ 1:10 am
Hi,I loved Body on Tap shampoo.I used it in the 70’s.Does anyone know who made it? I forgot. I would please like to know. Thank you.
September 14th, 2003 @ 11:11 am
proctor and gamble has the rights to production now from “adcock ingram healthcare”, I contacted them, and P&G has the rights to it now, Maybe they will start producing it now, they never emailed me back, this was about 9 months ago since.
September 14th, 2003 @ 11:17 am
clairol was the original producers of body on tap, they had discontinued it after short 5 years because of liability with it being associated with alcohol.
October 3rd, 2003 @ 8:43 pm
I have been trying to find Body on Tap Shampoo for a long time. I did find an excellent recipe for beer shampoo that works really well and gives great body. It actually smelled like Body on Tap when I was done. It can be found on Goldmine recipes — under Beer Shampoo recipes. Boil beer down to about half its consistency and add to inexpensive shampoo — I used Suave Clarifying and a litte John Freida volume enhancing shampoo for honey/caramel colored blondes. It really works!

When I think of Body On Tap, I think of my best childhood friend, the way it smelled and when you turned the bottle upside down, the bubbles looked like a lava lamp. Very cool!
October 10th, 2003 @ 1:45 pm
I was racking my brain to figure out what this great shampoo was that I used to use when I was younger and all I could remember was body and beer in it – so I surfed the web and yeah! Body on Tap – I have to have some again………….!!!!!
November 26th, 2003 @ 8:50 am
I remember this stuff, too; I don’t remember how well it worked… but would love to see it again; anybody found out if it’s out there anymore?

I used that shampoo forever. Everyone always use to say how good my hair smelled. I wish it would come back in full production. There are beer shampoos you can make that I have seen on line, but Body on Tap smelled so good.

June 10th, 2004 @ 8:52 pm
I am just very interested in finding and buying body on tap shampoo and conditioner, it was the only shampoo that I would use, it made you hair look and smell so great. And the smell didnt go away after just a few minutes, it lasted forever. I had gotten so many compliments on how great my hair smelled when using body on tap. So if anyone really knows where to buy it, I would really appreciate the info. Thanks
July 30th, 2004 @ 8:59 am
I actually still have VERY LITTLE left in the original bottle. Don’t laugh… I have used a small portion every once in a while just to get that smell in my hair. I mostly just open it up ans smell it though. I’m hoping they put it back on the market. It seems like an african company bought the rights to this shampoo, adcock Ingram healthcare, I just rifled off a letter to them letting them know that there are millions of us americans who are looking for this product and that it would be a wise decision if they re-introduced it to the United States. we’ll see.
September 28th, 2004 @ 4:17 pm
Satooz.com has Body On Tap shampoo. I just received my order from Australia. Four 350ml bottles plus shipping to California is $69.00 (US).
October 29th, 2004 @ 6:32 pm
IF I COULD FIND “BODY ON TAP” SHAMPOO, I WOULD ORDER IT BY THE CASE. I HAVE NEVER COME ACROSS A SHAMPOO THAT MADE MY HAIR SO MANAGEABLE AND SMELLING LIKE A CRYSTAL CLEAR FRAGRANCE THAT LASTED UNTIL I WASHED MY HAIR AGAIN. PLEASE START SELLING THIS SHAMPOO IN USA AGAIN.
November 10th, 2004 @ 8:06 am
how bizarre to read all these posts! Normally it’s the complete opposite: we read all the amazing stuff available in USA and wish it were that easy here… I use Body on Tap and it does smell awesome etc etc but after reading today I’ll definitely enjoy it more tonight
Cheers from Sunny South Africa!
November 11th, 2004 @ 3:19 pm
I wish I could find that shampoo. It is driving me crazy not being able to find it in the U.S.A.!!!!! Any help, I checked the Vermont store and that satooz store and came up with nothing. Anything else would be very helpful. Thank you, Jaymee
December 2nd, 2004 @ 10:39 pm
I AM SO SURPRISED TO HEAR HOW MANY PEOPLE STILL THINK ABOUT AND WISH THEY COULD FIND BODY ON TAP. I LOVED THE SMELL AND THE WAY IT MADE MY HAIR FEEL. IT SEEMS LIKE ALL THIS NEW SHAMPOO JUST COSTS MORE BUT DOESN’T REALLY DO WHAT IT SAYS.
I LOVED TAME CONDITONER TOO. THEY JUST DON’T MAKE THEM LIKE THEY USE TO. I HOPE SOMEBODY HEARS US AND BRINGS THESE GOOD OLE FASHION PRODUCTS BACK.
January 22nd, 2005 @ 8:41 pm
I have been trying to find the old “Tame” cream rinse. Does anyone know where it can be found? I have a tender headed 3 year old grand daughter with long hair. I remember using Tame in my younger years and would like to see if it still works like it used to on tangled hair.
January 25th, 2005 @ 8:27 am
Does anyone remember Farrah Fawcett shampoo? From the 70’s i used to leave the smell everywhere i went! Does anyone have any ideas? Vermont coutry store is a no go.
January 27th, 2005 @ 10:33 am
I’ve been reading all the comments about Body on Tap shampoo, which I wanted as well, and never thought so many others would! Now I need to find my all time favorite conditioner…if anyone can help me? It was called Small Miracle, I cannot remember who made it, and it came in a blue & purplish bottle…it smelled SOOO great! I need to find out if they still make it.
February 2nd, 2005 @ 7:43 pm
Wow..I am so excited to read these posts! I thought I was the only weirdo surfing around the internet looking for things like “Body on Tap”. I actually have “Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific” in Shampoo and Conditioner that are like relics. I have been saving them for years and years and only open them every so often to smell them and remember better times
I do remember TAME too! That cream rinse was awesome. How come they don’t make things like that anymore. And yes, how could I forget about Farah Fawcett shampoo?? I get goose bumps just thinking about all this! lol. I am amazed I can still find AGREE, another one of my favorites and some of the best smelling stuff…
February 8th, 2005 @ 2:11 pm
Hey this is great now I don’t feel so geeky looking around for old shampoos I miss from my childhood. Fabrge Organic was a favorite & the green herbal essence. Im really looking for tickle deoderant haven’t seen that since 1990!
February 24th, 2005 @ 6:47 pm
I bought some Body on Tap when I was travelling in Greece 5 years ago. I nearly stopped dead in my tracks when I saw it on a grocery store shelf (had to look twice though as the labels were all in greek, but it was the original bottle). Man, did it bring me back!!! I should have stocked up more
March 26th, 2005 @ 3:49 pm
Please produce Body on Tap Beer Shampoo again! As Nike says: “Just Do It”…..You will be pleasantly surprised at the market you will have!

April 30th, 2005 @ 10:41 am
I thought I was the only nut in the world trying to find a bottle of Body on Tap shampoo. I loved it as a young girl. My mother loves it as well. Neither of us have been able to find it. Now I know, I need to have it shipped in from Africa. Some years ago, I also used a body wash made by White Rain. It was the most wonderful thing. I can’t find it on a shelf anywhere either. Please – anyone, let me know if you have any clues.
Thanks, Tongula

How ironic to find this website. I was just searching for my favorite shampoo from Jr HS. I was able to locate an online retailer (importer in Canada) and I just purchased 3 bottles each of shampoo & conditioner at this site:
http://www.outofafricatrading.com/
seems pricey in comparison to it’s late 70’s sticker price, but still costs less than what I’m using now (Sebastian.) I will post when it arrives
I miss that fragrance!!!
May 5th, 2005 @ 9:42 pm
Constant & continuous failed searches for Tame over the years has led to to seek out another successful “cream rinse for thin, fine, straight, blonde hair. Yes, the color of your hair dies make a difference. You see, us natural bolndies cannot use products which are green or we turn into “green haired wonders.” Old “pearl tested” thick Prell didn’t turn our yellow heads green, but those days are long gone. Citre’ Shine INSTANT Conditioner is the closest in smell and performance, to Tame, I think hair like mine will ever hope to find again. Unfortunately, it too is now becoming harder and harder to find. I too loved Body on Tap. Keep on checking the shelves when you’re on vacation out of your own “region.”
May 5th, 2005 @ 10:49 pm
I too have been looking for the original Clairol Herbal Essence. I found a single bottle of it at the grocery store a few years ago…with ‘discontinued’ sign under it…was a long time before that since I’d seen it. I use it sparingly!! This link was *supposed* to provide us with the ability to purchase it on line http://www.vmafullfillment.com/dms-html/Clairol/index.html When you click on ‘Add to cart’ however, says that ‘This product has been discontinued’. Grrr. I’ve a half a bottle left, better make it last me.
May 25th, 2005 @ 4:19 pm
Just got an email this morning from Angela at Satooz.com. She has just received a shipment of Body On Tap shampoo. It should be available for sale after May 25, 2005. Check satooz.com for availability.
May 27th, 2005 @ 12:57 am
I too have been searching for the original Herbal Essence Shampoo.
Any ideas where it can be found. It has been discontinued on the Clairol site.
May 27th, 2005 @ 11:53 am
I just ordered 3 btls of Body-on-Tap shampoo, conditioner, and 2 in one from out of africa trading company. I hope it is the same stuff they made in the late 70’s early 80’s.
May 27th, 2005 @ 12:45 pm
I know a gentleman down here who has plenty of thoose Farrah Fawcett Shampoo bottles filled. If anyones interested email me.
June 2nd, 2005 @ 4:43 am
I LOVED “Body on Tap” Shampoo and have been
trying to find it to buy it, but no luck. It gave my
hair the BEST BODY EVER.
June 5th, 2005 @ 12:02 am
I WISH THE US WOULD START SELLING THESE SHAMPOOS LIKE BODY ON TAP,GEE YOUR HAIR SMELLS TERRIFIC, BECAUSE THEY ARE SO EXPENSIVE TO ORDER ON THE INTERNET. IF YOU CAN FIND THEM, THAT IS. YOU JUST CANT FIND A GOOD SMELLING SHAMPOO ANYMORE.
June 9th, 2005 @ 4:42 am
Guess what – woe is me!!! Just received 4 bottles of Body on Tap from http://www.satooz.com.au and it has a new fragrance and does not smell anything like the real thing – in fact I don’t really like the smell. I am so dissapointed. It does not mention “brewed with real beer” on the packaging.
June 23rd, 2005 @ 3:36 pm
body on tap was incredible i used it all the time i really dont think you will be able to get the original so be careful when these phony remakes smell nothing like ,and work nothing like the original .I hate it when they say new formula and its horrible
July 8th, 2005 @ 11:39 am
Wow! This is such a surprise for me. A good friend of mine and I had a conversation awhile ago about things we miss from our childhoods. One of those things was…yep you guessed it…Body On Tap shampoo. We also think it smelled great and made our hair so incredibly soft and shiny. Both of us would be interested in buying cases of the sweet smelling shampoo and conditioner so if anyone knows of where we can purchase it please, for the love of good hair let us know! We are in Canada. We also think the original product should be reintroduced into the U.S. and Canada. It would literally fly off the shelves. Good luck to all you fellow Body On Tap lovers.
July 14th, 2005 @ 12:44 pm
man every one is trippin i also love the body on tap shampoo. my mom used to buy it when i was little and she only bought it for her so one day i was taking a bath and came acros the brown bottle and smelled it and i loved it and i was also happy cuz i thought it was beer and and i told all my friends that i washed my hair with beer shampoo,, also have you tryed gee your hair smell terrfic see you my 70’s family
July 18th, 2005 @ 6:56 pm
Ugh! Bad news! The new formula of Body On Tap shampoo also has a new scent! I just received my three bottles from Canada and the seller told me that he cannot get the old formula anymore. Does anyone know who’s got the old formula? Thanks.
July 28th, 2005 @ 2:58 am
Good news! Jenni in S. Africa has the “beer enriched” (original smelling) Body On Tap shampoo and conditioner. She sells by the case (12 bottles) and you may mix and match. $42 USD for 12 bottles! S&H to California is $69 USD. Contact Jenni at: jenni@beds-on-line.co.za
July 31st, 2005 @ 12:58 pm
I have enough left in a sample bottle for one more shampoo!!! I selling it as I have terminal illness.

August 4th, 2005 @ 12:20 am
IS there a place to get “gee your hair smells terrific, body on tap (original) AND any way at ALL to get Tame creme rinse? I miss those memories, and the stuff WORKED too
August 12th, 2005 @ 9:35 am
I am interested in finding Body On Tap, Tame, Small Miracle and especially Silkience. One other that I don’t see mentioned is Breck Shampoo and Conditioner. My mother used to swear by Breck when I was a kid. In my opinion, the Outrageous Conditioner smells much like Silkience but definately not as good. I think that the manufacturers should put these and any other products that have been taken off the shelves, back on the shelves. At least try selling them again every once in a while to see if there is a market for them. Different generations may like them. I know I did and I found that the products I mentioned did work better than most of the ones today.
August 13th, 2005 @ 12:41 am
My friend likes the farrah fawcett shampoo, but it isnt sold anywhere, anyone able to help me out please?
August 21st, 2005 @ 8:08 pm
This is so funny, I sumbled across this site by accident while searching for BODY ON TAP. My twin sister and I are desperately searching for it. My mom is too. We’ve decided if we find it we’ll make her suffer a while without it. She use to use it when we were kids but never let us use it because she couldn’t afford it for 3 girls. What a memory. I wish they’d bring it back. If anyone knows of a place please let us know. Thanks desperate twins and their mom!!
August 26th, 2005 @ 6:24 pm
I’ve come across the new Breck shampoo, that was rereleased in 2002, all over the internet. Both for Normal hair and Dry hair, but I cannot find any conditioner or cream rinse to go with it. I’m hoping I find it eventually — probably on ebay at some point.
September 15th, 2005 @ 6:40 pm
To the person who said Farrah Fawcett was the best smelling shampoo….. SO TRUE!!!!!! I’ve yet ti find one better! If anyone knows where to possibly get any PLEASE contact me!!!!!!
October 8th, 2005 @ 8:09 pm

January 23rd, 2006 @ 5:25 pm
Hi, Fellow Body on Tap Shampoo lovers…. Ya know, talk about Aroma Theropy, I have been searching for 10 years, I just E-mailed the Oprah Winfrey Show in hopes they can be of some assistance, Perhaps we can all do the same!
January 23rd, 2006 @ 10:43 pm
The Farrah Fawcett shampoo I loved was made by Fabrege- they went bankrupt in the 80’s I believe… so looks like we won’t get that one back! I have ordered Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific on Ebay and it is as wonderful as I remember. Is it just me, or does anyone else remember Body on Tap smelling like the old-fashioned red cherry “suckers” that were on a loop of twisted paper, rather than a stick?? A cherry sucker is what I ALWAYS think of when I think of BOT!!!
February 8th, 2006 @ 7:16 pm
I was gonna order from the South Africa place to get Body on Tap for my mom. Since it’s not the original, this site just saved me some $$. Thanx. Also, I just recieved confirmation of order for Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific shampoo. It has it’s own site and the orders are shipped from Phillipines so it will take about 6 weeks for me to get it. I can’t wait.
February 9th, 2006 @ 9:24 pm
I am looking for silkience shampoo-I seen it last in a drugstore in Montana 12 years ago. Any ideas?

I’m just trying to find a decent picture of an original body on tap bottle. Can’t find one anywhere. Anyone know where I can find one?
February 11th, 2006 @ 8:56 pm
Wow, what a trip down memory lane! I stumbled across this site while searching for another discontinued fave of mine called Textra, from the late 80’s. Body on Tap was a favorite from when I was a kid, as well as Lemon Up shampoo. Anyone remember Textra? I see it listed a few places when I google it, but no luck finding it for sale….
March 11th, 2006 @ 12:53 pm
Mary,
I too ordered Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific from the Philippines. It has been 4 months and despite receiving a confirmation I never got my order! The website I ordered from doesn’t reply back to me now and I read on another website that this company doesn’t even ship to the US.
What a BUMMER!
Please let me know if you ever got your order…Thanks!
March 20th, 2006 @ 8:58 am
do you really have a shampoo and conditioner that smells like silkience?
March 20th, 2006 @ 9:02 am
please send me more information about your shampoo and conditoner and how to order it.
March 20th, 2006 @ 3:39 pm

April 4th, 2006 @ 10:09 pm
I just bought two full bottles of Body on Tap off eBay — original 80s vintage!
April 27th, 2006 @ 8:19 pm
This has been such an interesting site – although I don’t remember ever using Body On Tap shampoo in my 49 years, I did use alot of Tame creme rinse, and have an interesting story to share with you. When I was ten my mom and I were in the store buying Tame creme rinse. Taped to the sides of the bottles were these psychadelic-colored wide tooth combs, the “Tangle Tamer” comb, as a special promotion. They were a heavy plastic comb that came in either orange and yellow swirled or green and blue swirled. Well, I still to this day am the proud, albeit obscure, owner of the original orange and yellow “Tangle Tamer” comb from Tame! I only came upon this website because I wanted to look up the comb to see if I could find anything about it or Tame. Nothing on ebay. Wonder if my little comb is worth anything? It still looks like new and has never chipped, faded or broke. I love it! But if anyone is interested, I might part with it for a good price . . . can’t help anyone with finding Tame or Body on Tap. I used to use Long N’ Silky in the 70’s – anyone remember that? It was really nice. I also used to love that deep blue Halo shampoo; it smelled really good. God bless!
May 17th, 2006 @ 3:28 pm
I ordered “gee your hair smells terrific” shampoo from the Philipines, the bottles are tiny and one of them was open and spilled all over the inside of the box. They never replied to my emails either.
May 31st, 2006 @ 4:27 pm

Hello everyone! I have no words to express how shocked I am….it is years…literally 20 years that I am searching for Body On Tap! I can’t believe some of the entries listed above regarding its sale in South Africa…since I just came back from there (Honeymoon). Had I known……!!!!!!!
So, what is it? The South Afircan Site or the Canadian to buy off of?
Thanks
Sonya

July 14th, 2006 @ 9:21 pm
I remember my mother buying Body on Tap shampoo at Kmart when I was little. I loved it, the smell and the way it made my hair feel. I wish that it would be sold in stores again in Canada. I’m certain that there would be not only the 70’s generation, but a whole new generation, who would certainly be happy and appreciate Body on Tap Shampoo. I’ll definately be contacting a Proctor & Gamble about it!! Hope to see it on shelves soon! Cheers to all past Body on Tap users!

My son (16 yrs old) and I were discussing “my generation” differences from my teens to today. During this fun, light-hearted discussion I said “and you missed out on body on tap” beer shampoo. He laughed and thought I was nuts as I described this shampoo. So…remembering those years ago and the comments that I got on my hair prompted me to look. I ,too, am amazed at how many posts are here. We must continue to prompt P&G to remarket this product. I truly doubt today’s teens will remember a particular shampoo or fragrance when they are in their 40’s. Let’s work together to give them something simple like shampoo to reminisce about.

WHERE IS THE ORIGENAL BODY ON TAP THIS NEW FORMELA DOES NOT WORK AT ALL. IF I REALY NEED ‘BODY’ IN MY HAIR I JUST USE A BRUSH. WE MIS THE BEER INRICHED BODY ON TAP YOU MIGHT JUST AS WELL CHANGE THE NAME BECAUSE THE NEW FORMULA SUCKS
August 18th, 2006 @ 11:27 am
I Loved Body on Tap as well… I would suggest us all to go here…
http://www.pg.com/getintouch/syt.jhtml
and bombard P&G with comments about how the Earth would be a better (and cleaner) place with Body on Tap ***ORIGINAL FORMULA**** shampoo.

Hi! I am glad to know I am not the only one out there trying to find great shampoos the bring back wonderful memories…Gee your hair smells teriffic and body on tap!
If I have any luck finding these items other than ebay I will let everyone know…I am afraid to purchase the body on tap from http://www.outofafricatrading.com in fear it will be the new formula I’ve read about here on the board. Has anyone ordered it recently?
Also, does any one know why jergens discontinued “Gee your hair smells terrific” ?
September 7th, 2006 @ 12:42 am
I ordered the shampoo from the geeyourhairsmellsterrific website, yes from the Phillippines. It came as promised within 10 days, packed well etc.. however folks it is not the same formula. Do not waste your money!!!

i am almost sure body on tap was originally made by bristol myers and i first saw it in 1978 and last used it in 1985.
these shamppos now stink and are marketed to appeal to asian women and others who like smells of fruits and foods. body on tap did not smell like beer to me and i certianly drank enough beer in 1985 while in the navy but it had an incredible smell that i never smelled again. also in 1980 andrew jergens made a shampoo called “spring feeling” which had springwater in it and it was off the shelves by 1982
i i never knew white rain was an old shampoo when i first used it in 1984 and it too had an incredible smell. all these shampoos stink now lbut like music they can bring back memories.

I Think Seattle Guy Is Right About “Body On Tap” Shampoo Being Made By Bristol-Myers (Later, Bristol-Myers Squibb) However, Bristol-Myers Squibb Did Own Clairol In The 70’s (Sold To Proctor & Gamble In The 90’s) However, It Was One Of The Company’s Personal Care Products At The Time. Among Toothpastes, Vitamins, Mouthwash And Deodorants(The Presonal Care Lines Were Sold-Out To Various Other Companies) As For “White Rain” It was Sold By The Gillette Co. To Diamond Brands Along With “TONI®” Home Permanents. Tame Creme Rinse Which Was Also A Toni® Product Has Not Been Seen In The U.S. Since The Sale. But, Other Toni® Products Were Purchased By Other Vendors. SUN-IN™ Spray-On Sun Lightner Was Sold To Chattem Labs, Happy Face Washing Cream To Lander Cosmetics. So, Tame™ Could Be Anywhere.

I really want Tame Creme Rinse. Can someone please help me to find it?
October 4th, 2006 @ 7:59 pm
Need to know where I can buy Tame Cream Rinse.
October 9th, 2006 @ 7:52 pm
Hi All, I know of a wonderful cream rinse. I used to love Tame too! I was thinking of asking Vermont Country Store to try to find it. They do get some of the older products in if they can find them.
The cream rinse that I now use, which is FABULOUS is found at this site:
http://www.rapunzelsthelonghairsalon.com/
The cream rinse is George Michael cream rinse – is pink- and in a large bottle. They also have a GREAT deep conditioner and a weekly conditioner. My hair is very long and wavy. Their products allow me to get a comb through my hair without pulling out half of it!
They ship me the products so I know you can order from them. I make a trip to them twice a year – as they are the only ones that I will allow to touch my hair. Hope this helps!

I’m changing products a little bit. Does anyone remember how good Wildroot Cream Oil used to smell on little girls hair back in the 50’s and 60’s. It smelled like a light perfume and when a child had it in her hair you could tell-it was wonderful and made your hair shiny. They still make Wildroot and it has original scent-but I beleived it had a more perfumy smell when it was in the yellow black an white box
January 12th, 2007 @ 3:52 pm
I too am a Big fan of the old hair products like Body on Tap, Tame , and Gee your hair smells terrific. I also remember as a girl the perfume and body spray called “Loves Baby Soft”. I was fortunate enough to find this in a store that went out of business. I guess it was found in some old inventory because I hadnt seen this in years before this. I would love to find these items again too and I keep looking on ebay with the hopes one day I will get lucky. Thanks for this site and the trip down memory lane!!!
January 18th, 2007 @ 9:53 am
everyone is asking about Tame and Body On Tap – still no answers on Tame at all – if found, I will buy in droves: contact me at orionsnewbelt@aol.com only if you know where i can get the real thing, on either product. i have a gazillion friends that want them too, but only if they are the original formulas. thanks.
January 26th, 2007 @ 10:19 am
Hi I saw a few of you were lokking for Silkience shampoo and Conditioner. I buy it from my grocery store in Roscoe, Illinois. It is sold at Highlander groceries which is owned by Kroger. They also have White Rain . It knows comes in different formulas (extra body, extra moisturizing) but it works the same on my hair as it always did. I think it may have a new fragrance but it still smells great.
January 26th, 2007 @ 11:53 am
Clairol Herbal Essence and Breck were great shampoos.
Why in the world don’t the marketers ever pay attention to how many people want the old shampoos back???????
February 10th, 2007 @ 11:57 pm
i too loved the way clairol herbal essence shamppoo & cond. left my hair soft & full of body{ the one for normal hair. to bad they stopped mking it
..i wrote them an email & they said costumers didnt seem to buy it .. as stated above..hard to beieve..it was teh oly hsmpoo that didnt leave a buildup & left my hair teh same nice way every time.. the new formulas are not good at all
February 22nd, 2007 @ 10:17 pm
Just wanted to add my comments to all of the above .. My sister and I used to use Body on Tap beer shampoo and like everyone says … the smell was awesome … I would love to have it back… I know we cant turn back time but someone needs to help us in the US…… Please give us something to look forward to … the shampoo we have to choose from are expensive and really stink
February 27th, 2007 @ 1:55 pm
I actually found this on a hard-to-find site. Proctor & Gamble SA now makes it. There is a phone on the bottle: 0860 112 188; this bottle does list formaldehyde as an ingredient. It worked good enough I’d buy it again, but not exactly the same smell, results as I saw with the original
February 28th, 2007 @ 8:47 pm
Found the receipt! You can purchase “new formula” Body on Tap Shampoo, Conditioner and Shampoo/Conditioner combo at this link:
http://www.outofafricatrading.com/products.asp?subcategoryID=23
just copy link into your browser (site is Out of Africa Trading in Canada-shipping was a tad high). Note, it IS reformulated (”new improved!”); it does have a nice smell and leaves hair shiny and very soft as the original did. not the same, but it is worth a try. Never used the conditioner and would love one that does not leave long 45 year old hair frizzy!
March 24th, 2007 @ 9:33 pm
I am a great believer in purchasing brand name shampoos/conditioners But will try just ANYTHING at least once. Just about 2 months ago I bought my very first bottle of Body on Tap shampoo & conditioner and absolutley loved it!! From the smell to the texture that it left in your hair when finished, it was great. It honestly has been just about the best shampoo that I have purchased and would recommend it to anyone! Unfortunately since moving back abroad I am not able to purchse it anymore. Is there a US website that I could get it from???? Thanks!!
May 7th, 2007 @ 9:35 pm
I too would love Gee your hair smells terrific and Body on Tap to return with it’s original smell. It has been years since I used it but man oh man can I still remeber that smell. I to emailed procter and gamble and asked that they bring it back, they weren’t convinced and told me that it wouldn’t happen. Fools, I would stock up on both shampoos.
May 15th, 2007 @ 9:07 pm
BODY ON TAP was made by Bristol Meyers and marketed for about 4 years.
It was pulled from the shelves not because of any inference to alcohol, but simply because it didn’t sell that well. People who loved it LOVED it, but there were not enough of them.
My roommate worked as a saledman for Bristol Meyers, we had a seemingly unending supply. When it went out of production all the sales people hoarded all they could.
May 23rd, 2007 @ 1:08 pm
I just found Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific!!!! Vermont Country Store has it!!
You can find it at vermontcountrystore.com!!
I am so excited!

I just bought two full bottles of Body on Tap off eBay — original 80s vintage!
someone ask Allison if she will send me a nice picture of the original bottle

You probably got scammed just like I did. I got something, but it definitely was NOT Body On Tap. I got some kind of runny, golden colored stuff. It didn’t stink, but it smelled cheap. It sure wasn’t the original Beer Enriched BOT. Watch out for this seller. They do state in their ad that the shampoo will be shipped in water bottles. A LEGITIMATE seller would sell you the original bottle with the original shampoo in it and not make you pay EXTRA for the empty bottle! The bottle that my bogus BOT came in was one of those 16.9 oz. water bottles. I’ve been trying to contact this seller for over a week and no response. I’m opening a dispute with eBay tomorrow.
August 9th, 2007 @ 5:35 pm
Does anyone remember a shampoo called “Small Miracle” .
It was in a greenish /blue container
smell so great !!!!
Who made this ??
Also anyone know where to get some ?

Does anyone have a picture of an original bottle of body on tap shampoo or lemon-up shampoo. I would love one. tamitownsend@hotmail.com

I purchased an original bottle of Body on Tap not to long ago. I also have Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific and Agree. Contact me if you want further information. I might sell. dhwcooffice@netscape.net

Hey, it’s back! The Vermont Country Store has the original beer enriched formula with the original great scent! The only thing that’s different is the shape of the bottle. It looks just like a bottle of beer! Cut and paste this address into your browser:

ahhh Body on Tap! short and sassy, gee your hair smells terrific! Flashback to being an 11 year old girl! I don’t know what popped into my brain, but suddenly, I was remembering Body on Tap, the smell and how thick it was. Of course, I have to Google it and find out how much it is missed. I also used another Beer Shampoo, but can’t remember the name of it for the life of me. It wasn’t shaped like the Body on Tap bottle, but it was a beer shampoo. I think it had: Miss__________Beer Shampoo&Conditioner in the title, it was definetely a shampoo and conditioner in one, but not nearly as thick. I am in Canada, so I am not sure if it was an exclusive Canadian product or not. I am going to check out the Vermont Country Store and see what I can find. This is a great site! I am thrilled to see that I am not the only one missing Body on Tap!!
December 27th, 2007 @ 10:57 am
I just got off a chat window with a lady from Vermont Country Store. 29.00 and 27.55 in shipping:)
I will have to approach my sweetie about this, he knows that I have a shampoo ‘thing’ so he will likely mollify me:)
December 27th, 2007 @ 10:58 am
29.00 for 2 bottles
December 27th, 2007 @ 1:08 pm
I also remember Maple Buds…does anyone else? god these were to die for, especially when they melted a bit in the package, then you just carefully ripped it open, and scraped it all into your mouth LOL

Too much sugar can absolutely trigger an episode! My last big itch started with a weekend of company and lots and lots of cookies.
December 31st, 2007 @ 8:50 pm
I, too, thought I was the only one who knew of Body on Tap shampoo. My hair has never been the same since its disappearance from the shelves. Though, I’m sure age has more to do with it. Thanks so much for all your tips on how to find it again!!!
January 8th, 2008 @ 6:12 pm
I have used and purchased this shampoo for years but then could not find it and longer. I am longing for this product to be produced again.
Body on Tap made my hair smell wonderful and no it did not smell like beer. It had this clean fresh scent that I would most likely die for if again this product was on the market.
Body on Tap also made your hair smooth, no frizz, and shiny, really beautiful, IT DID LIVE UP TO EVERYTHING YOU EVER WANTED IN A SHAMPOO.
Here is the story of how I found the product. My freind had it and I wanted it but being from a not so rich family I had to found employment to purchase, but my first bottle came from my Mom, she told me, “here Sandi I bought this for you but use it sparingly because it was expensive for us”, so when I did use it all, I asked my grandmother if I could come to work with her so that I could make a little extra money to buy things that we as a family could not. (I worked as a floor girl in a Coat Factory in Philly) So, off to work I went, and my first pay check went to buying 3 bottles of BODY ON TAP, because I did not want to run out.
As I got older I noticed that it was no longer on the selves, I miss my favorite shampoo. Wish I couls find it again. So , if anyone knows were I can please email me at ssanchez999@msn.com
Thanks for the memories
Sandi

wow!! What a blast from the past. I can’t believe this. there are so many others like me looking for a piece of our past! I like many other fellow body on tap and gee your hair smells terrific users are searching for this great product. Why in the world are they only making these great products in Africa? and is Vermont the only other place to get it? Thats crazy !!! We need it back !!wher every one can buy it.My kids generation is missing out, and Iwould love a whiff to trigger so many great memories for me from that era!!
February 19th, 2008 @ 8:00 pm
update, I just got my Body on Tap from Vermont Country Store and OMGGGGGGG!!! It smells just like the original!!!! talk about delish! The only things that are different, is the bottle and it seems a bit more orange and a bit thinner than I remembered. I seem to remember it being browner and thicker. Ah well, I am thrilled to have it, and use it sparingly.
February 24th, 2008 @ 6:45 pm
Yes, I agree that it is a thinner consistency than the original. I still have some of the original I bought from Satooz in Australia (S. African manufacture) in 2004 and this new batch is thinner and lighter. But it still smells GREAT and “gives your hair good body.” We’re talkin’ puffy, okay? lol
April 15th, 2008 @ 3:25 pm
Someone above said that Clairol was the originator. That’s not so. It first came from Bristol-Myers Products and was given to Clairol when Bristol gave up their shampoo business.
See my article:

April 29th, 2008 @ 5:54 pm
I think this web page has a major problem. The printing on it is so small you can’t even read it and all the stuff doesn’t come up. I think your webmaster needs to get busy and check it out.
May 26th, 2008 @ 1:51 pm
I also ordered Body on Tap from the Vermont Country Store and it really does smell just the way I remember it! However, I didn’t see a conditioner for sale, and the Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific shampoo I also ordered doesn’t really smell like the original, but still good. They do sell Lemon Up shampoo and alot of other “memories”. I also used to use Wella Balsam and Flex but haven’t looked for those yet!

Can anyone tell me where I can buy Silkience???
July 22nd, 2008 @ 6:52 pm
Can anyone tell me where I can by Silkence or Gee your hair smells terrific. I really loved those shampoos but I cant find them. I hate the shampoos they make now. I also like the old Pantene shampoo and conditioner.Thank you
July 28th, 2008 @ 11:08 am
How about Agree shampoo and conditioner from the 70’s and 80’s? It smelled awesome and the scent lasted all day long. Can’t find it either. Just saw some Pert in Walgreens, but it was the 2in1 kind and they dont have the conditioner for sale. It smelled like the original.
August 28th, 2008 @ 5:35 am
For those of you out there that are looking for the fabulous smelling FARRAH FAWCETT shampoo from the late 70’s and early 80’s, you can actually but it on FARRAH’s website at FARRAHFAWCETT.US, check it out on her site.
September 23rd, 2008 @ 5:29 pm
There is an original Body On Tap on E-bay that has 4 days left to bid. Just in case anyone is interested. I was browsing for vintage shampoos and came across this one.
September 23rd, 2008 @ 5:31 pm
BTW: There are a pair of Silkience Shampoo and Conditioner also.
December 27th, 2008 @ 6:46 pm
body on tap was the best shampoo i ever used and been trying to find it for years can you help me find it so i can buy it
January 17th, 2009 @ 2:47 pm
Just checked… Body on Tap is at ebay also… just type in Body on Tap into the search window there. There’s one available as far as I can tell.
It’s BuyItNow price is $100 …. ouch.
February 3rd, 2009 @ 5:31 pm
I was shopping at Dollar Store last week. I always look for brands I know rather than the poor quailty brands they usually sell–not to mention their names….
I see Silkience and it triggers a memory. Bought a trial bottle of shampoo and one of conditioner–as sort of a $2 gamble. What a payoff!!! It is fantastic. I have long straight hair and have been paying $4+ a bottle for good shampoo/conditioner that my grown daughters tell me to buy. I went back and stocked up on Silkience. May go back and buy more.
I saw the ebay sale of Silkience. Forget about it. Go to Dollar Store. You have have to visit more than one to find it.
March 22nd, 2009 @ 12:15 pm
I can’t remember the name of a cream rinse that was popular in the 50s! It was deliciously pearly pink and may have smelled like cherries or strawberries. It is part of my soul and I would love to even know the name!
May 21st, 2009 @ 7:31 pm
Can someone tell me if they have purchased Body on tap from the Vermont country store recently? If so, is it the original? Does it have that same AWSOME scent? I am thinking of ordering some, but I only want the original. Thanks in advance!
June 1st, 2009 @ 12:41 pm
A whole range of Body on Tap shampoos are available on the shelves of most shops in South Africa. This product is manufactured and distributed by Procter and Gamble SA Trading. It is however a far cry from the original Body on Tap advertised as brewed with a third real beer. It does not even smell the same. I hope someone can bring the original product back. IT WORKED!!!!
June 13th, 2009 @ 12:37 am
I splurged and ordered some Body on Tap from the Vermont store. I can’t wait to get it! I really wish the conditioner was available as well because from what I remember, that really is what made the delicious smell last and last.
June 25th, 2009 @ 12:06 pm
How about Lemon Up shampoo? From the 70’s, in a bottle with a yellow plastic lemon for a cap/top! Loved it!
July 12th, 2009 @ 9:11 pm
Stacy, let me know if you find the conditioner. I did buy some body on tap shampoo from the vermont store and it does have that delicious smell. But it does not last like it use to back in the early 80’s when I use to use it. I would love to find the conditioner!
July 19th, 2009 @ 11:28 pm
I love the smell of body on tap shampoo, bought a bottle from vermount store and it smelled just like the the original. I wish they had the conditioner in stock.
August 4th, 2009 @ 12:41 pm
The original Body On Tap was the only shampoo that ever worked in my hair. I was devistated when it went off the shelf. I bought up a bunch of it when I found out it was going to be discontinued. I even had my sister send me 10 bottles from the city she was living in across the country. Those last few bottles were like gold to me! Of course I eventually ran out of my stockpile. That was back in my college days, and my hair is probably different now because of age, but I would love it if it came back again just to try. It DID smell good like others here have said, but the silky way it made my hair was the biggest plus for me. I think about that shampoo a lot. I’m going to try the Vermont Country store version and see how it works.
